Well, the games are free to get from http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/

The games are GTA, Wild Metal Country and GTA2

Why not make installers for those games? :D

PLEASE NOTE that while this game may be downloaded for free by all who register by filling out the form on this page, it is NOT freeware and may not be mirrored or duplicated by any third parties without express written consent from Rockstar Games.
ok?

of course, it's free to get, but you can't distribute it.
I don't see the problem creating an installer. :P People would download the .zip file from the site, extract it to get the exe, and then (or maybe before extracting...), use the installer to install successfully the game in linux.

Just a thought, dont hit me please. :o

GTA2 is working in Cedega! just use GlideWrapper v.0.74 from zeckensack.de and add this lines to system.reg:
[Software\\DMA Design Ltd\\GTA2\\Screen]
"exploding_on"=dword:00000001
"videoname"="dmaglide.dll"
"gamma"=dword:0000000a
"max_frame_rate"=dword:00000001
"full_height"=dword:000001e0
"videodevice"=dword:00000001
"window_height"=dword:000001e0
"start_mode"=dword:00000001
"device"=dword:00000002
"tripple_buffer"=dword:00000000
"window_width"=dword:00000280
"renderdevice"=dword:00000000
"do_play_movie"=dword:00000001
"bit_depth"=dword:00000010
"full_width"=dword:00000280
"rendername"="3dfx.dll"
"lighting"=dword:00000001
"special_recognition"=dword:00000001
"min_frame_rate"=dword:00000000
"curr_dll_id"=dword:00000002
Best regards.

Is it playable?

Is it playable?
Of course! It's even much more smooth then in windoze. Only you need is select option "render to - client window" in GlideWrapper and play in window (add this in your ~/.transgaming/config):
[AppDefaults\\gta2.exe\\x11drv]
"Desktop" = "640x480"
Good luck.

I get a Incorrect version of DirectX error.

Is this because i'm using regular wine?

Yes, you must use Cedega. I discover this on version 4.3, so I don't know about prior ones. But I know, that it don't work on WINE and WineX.

Good Luck.

Phlogiston

Of course, I can. Well, let's start. That's what you need to get it to work:

- Cedega 4.3 (maybe any 4.x, but I don't know) or latest build of regular WINE (ideally is to get CVS version).

- Glide Wrapper 0.74 from http://zeckensack.de/glide/archive/GlideWrapper074.exe (Very important! Newer versions have bugs in cedega (it's actually windows program), such as сutted off pixels in upper and left sides of the screen, hence you can't see cop heads, amount of money and 'respect' of yakuza.

- For ATI cards you need or recent fglrx driver, or very recent DRI snapshot from dri.freedesktop.org/snapshots (you must download lastest common-... and r200-... for Radeon8500-9250 or common-... and radeon-... for radeons older than 8500. You must also have X.Org 6.8.2). Personally I use CVS versions of X.Org, Mesa and DRM plus S3TC library from http://homepage.hispeed.ch/rscheidegger ... index.html. With nVidia cards there shouldn't be any problems.

OK, now let's install and configure GlideWrapper: (in this example I use cedega, but with wine all actions is pretty similar)

cedega GlideWrapper074.exe
cedega ~/TransGaming_Drive/Program\ Files/Glide\ Wrapper/configurator.exe
You must choose that options:
render to -> client window
float shaders -> on
Now we must tell GTA2 to use Glide instead of D3D. Make sure that system.reg in your ~/.transgaming (or ~/.wine) don't contain any previous entries (with D3D) associated with GTA and add following lines to that file:

[Software\\DMA Design Ltd\\GTA2\\Control]
"0"=dword:000000c8
"1"=dword:000000d0
"10"=dword:00000038
"11"=dword:00000036
"2"=dword:000000cb
"3"=dword:000000cd
"4"=dword:0000001d
"5"=dword:0000001c
"6"=dword:00000039
"7"=dword:0000002c
"8"=dword:0000002d
"9"=dword:0000000f

[Software\\DMA Design Ltd\\GTA2\\Debug]

[Software\\DMA Design Ltd\\GTA2\\Network]
"show_player_names"=dword:00000001

[Software\\DMA Design Ltd\\GTA2\\Option]
"Language"="e"
"text_speed"=dword:00000003

[Software\\DMA Design Ltd\\GTA2\\Player]
"plyrslot"=dword:00000000

[Software\\DMA Design Ltd\\GTA2\\Screen]
"bit_depth"=dword:00000010 ----------------- 10 - 16 bits, 20 - 32 bits color.
"curr_dll_id"=dword:00000001
"device"=dword:00000002
"do_play_movie"=dword:00000000
"exploding_on"=dword:00000001
"full_height"=dword:000001e0
"full_width"=dword:00000280
"gamma"=dword:0000000a
"lighting"=dword:00000001 ----------------------- 1 - day, 0 - night.
"max_frame_rate"=dword:00000001
"min_frame_rate"=dword:00000000
"renderdevice"=dword:00000000
"rendername"="3dfx.dll"
"special_recognition"=dword:00000001
"start_mode"=dword:00000001 ---------------------- if game refuse to run, try to tweak this option. Try 0,2,3...
"tripple_buffer"=dword:00000000
"videodevice"=dword:00000001
"videoname"="dmaglide.dll"
"window_height"=dword:00000320
"window_width"=dword:00000258

[Software\\DMA Design Ltd\\GTA2\\Sound]
"CDVol"=dword:0000007f
"SFXVol"=dword:0000007f

Now you must remember not to run accidentally gta2 manager.exe, since it will overwrite all settings in registry back to Direct3D. At first time I recommend run game in 640x480 window mode. If all be ok you can change it back to fullscreen (but I always play in window and do fake fullscreen by Ctrl-Alt-+) Now just type cedega gta2.exe and enjoy!!! With GlideWrapper you can run not only gta2, but also carmageddon2 and quite possibly other Glide games (I only tried incubation). To run carma2 you need to launch cedega carma2_HW.exe -glide instead of cedega carma2.exe.

Good luck to all and sorry my bad English, since I'm Russian. Original version of this guide was posted by me at
http://unixforum.ru/index.php?showforum=10 and somewhere at linux.org.ru.
