American McGee's Alice is an awesome game based on the Quake III Arena engine. It's a shame it never got a proper Linux port, but it runs excellently under WINE.

I'd highly recommend you give it a shot. The story and style are very imaginative. I can't wait for the movie which is supposed to be in-production ...

As the Q3 engine is now opensource somebody should contact someone at American McGee's Alice and ask if they would release their source as well?! :)

As much as I'd *love* for this to happen, there's not a chance. *sigh*

The publishing rights are owned exclusively by EA. I think hell would freeze over before they gave anything away. According to one of American's FAQ, they won't even release the "entities.def" file that would allow the FAKK2 editor to create all new maps, place items, etc. for Amercian McGee's Alice, despite numerous requests. :(

There's probably a marginally better chance of them producing a sequel at some point ... maybe to tie in with the Alice move, which is supposed to be out in July.

Open-source-wise, until someone else gets the rights, we might be better off waiting for American McGee's Grimm which is halfway through development. It's based on the Unreal Tournament III engine which should get a Linux port, and I think the rights will remain with American's company. So, maybe in 2013 or so ... ;)

You are right, EA ... :(

Even if there will be a Linux port of UT3 this doesn't mean we will see a Linux port of American McGee's Grimm.

Hence the use of the words "might", "should" and "maybe" ... :)

Right, sorry.
