Problem starting Doom 3 on AMD64

Post by Dylanby » Sun Dec 26, 2004 1:33

Hello. Here's the situation. I'm a newbie who's recently converted from windows to Linux (Ubuntu).

I've installed my Nvidia drivers following other tutorials. Yesterday I installed UT2004 & everything works fine.

Today I installed Doom 3 using the Loki installer. The installation went okay but when I try to run it I get an error saying that the current video card/driver combination doesn't support the necessary features. It changes my desktop resolution from 1280x1024 to a lower one & locks up my mouse so that I can't use it & have to CTRL+Alt+Backspace. My card is a Geforce 6800GT.

If anyone can help me out I'd be very grateful!

you must install your nvidia driver with 32 bit lib support

<waves hand over head> Whooooshhh!

Okay...I installed these drivers from .debs. I'm not sure if I have 32 bit libs on my system.

Perhaps I'll have to set up a 32bit chroot (I've found tutorials for doing it).

try it. :D

doom3 has no amd64 binarys, so you need some 32libs on your system.

I have Gentoo and i must install
emul-linux-x86-baselibs
emul-linux-x86-xlibs
and the amd64 nvidia driver with 32 bit support
to play all 32 bit games :(
