i don't install games as user root at all

From http://icculus.org/lgfaq/#kpcrash

Q: Kingpin prints a load of OpenGL extension information to the console, then crashes. What's going on?

A: Check to see if you have a file called "pak0.pak" in your "kingpin/main" directory.
If you don't, get unshield from http://synce.sourceforge.net/synce/unshield.php,
mount your Kingpin CD, and run:

Code: Select all

unshield -L -g "Program Executable Files" x /path/to/cdrom/kingpin/data1.hdr
cp program_executable_files/main/* /path/to/kingpin/main/
