ubunt6.10 64bit ut2004 megapack Assertion failed

Post by kinkdxm » Fri Jan 26, 2007 6:44

I installed unreal 2004 in ubuntu 6.10 64bit
Game worked perfectly.
I installed ut2004.megapack-english-2.run

Now when i try and start the game the unreal splash screen (i think that's what it is called) flashes on the screen for a second and then i get this error

Assertion failed: sizeof(*this)==GetClass()->GetPropertiesSize() [File:UnGame.cpp] [Line: 149]

History:

Exiting due to error

I read in the faq after the fact (trying to figure out what went wrong) to install linux32 tool first.
I hadn't done that
So should I run it now?
and then reinstall the megapack?
I have no clue what to do and thought I should ask before I mess it up more.
thanks.

please attach a complete 'ls -R' of the installation directory and a list with 'file *' from the System subdirectory.

is that where the main game is installed which on my machine is /usr/local/games/ut2004 (it seems like a huge list.)
or did you want where the ut2004.megapack-english-2 was installed (i don't know where that is)?

then did you want me to type in
file *
in the terminal when i'm in this directory:
/usr/local/games/ut2004/System

Better show me the output of:

file /usr/local/games/ut2004/System/*.so*

and

file /usr/local/games/ut2004/System/*-bin

file /bin/ls
/bin/ls: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.2.5, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped

It took me awhile to figure it out.
BUT I'm "pretty sure" this is what you want then.

Yesterday I installed beryl it worked great.
BUT when I rebooted my computer today x wouldn't load.
so instead of trying to figure out what when wrong I just reinstalled (it was faster) and now I'm going to put unreal2004 back on.
I'll take a look at installing the linux32 tool first before I try the modpack.
so I guess thanks anyway but case closed.

thanks for the heads up!
i guess I'll just skip the modpack then.
I'm fine with playing against bots anyway.
I'd get my ass kicked if i played it online :)

true true
tell you what after a week of playing unreal 2004
(i should be bored with it by then just against bots and will want the expansion) i'll put it back on.
so sometime next week i'll do excattly what i did before in installing it to see what happens
guessing i'll get the same error
so till then
