ut99 installation problem

Postby kharleth » Fri Sep 14, 2007 22:23

When I execute the ut-install-436.run nothing happens. I have checked the 'is executable' check box on file properties.

Then I try to execute the script in terminal and the output is following:

with bash:

Code: Select all

teemu@teemu-laptop:~/downloads/loki installers$ bash ut-install-436.run
Verifying archive integrity...tail: Warning: "+number" syntax is deprecated, please use "-n +number"
OK
Uncompressing Unreal Tournament version 436 Linux installtrap: usage: trap [-lp] [arg signal_spec ...]
ut-install-436.run: line 155: cd: /home/teemu/downloads/loki: No such file or directory
tail: Warning: "+number" syntax is deprecated, please use "-n +number"
tail: cannot open `ut-install-436.run' for reading: No such file or directory

gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file

ut-install-436.run: line 166: ./setup.sh: No such file or directory
The program returned an error code (127)

with sh:

Code: Select all

teemu@teemu-laptop:~/downloads/loki installers$ sh ut-install-436.run
Verifying archive integrity...tail: Warning: "+number" syntax is deprecated, please use "-n +number"
[: 133: 2341625838: out of range
OK
Uncompressing Unreal Tournament version 436 Linux installtrap: 154: cd /tmp; /bin/rm -rf $tmpdir; exit $res: bad trap

I'm not a linux specialist, so I don't have a single clue what do those error messages mean. Am I doing something seriously wrong? I used same methods when installing with doom 3 .run script and everything went fine.

I'm running Kubuntu 7.04 feisty on Zepto laptop with:
Intel Celeron 1.73 GHz
Nvidia GeForce Go 7600
1024 MB ram

Solventing this problem

Try this:

export _POSIX2_VERSION=199209

But....I have a updated ut99 installer which decompresses all maps and copies decompressed into hard disk instead of the web installer , which does not descompress all maps.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install libgtk1.2

ottk3

In Ubuntu 10.4 (Karmic) libgtk1.2 is missing and

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install libgtk1.2
won't work anymore.
Package libgtk1.2 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source
E: Package libgtk1.2 has no installation candidate

So you have to install the following packages first (in that order) to get the UT99 installer run.

http://packages.ubuntu.com/en/jaunty/libgtk1.2-common
http://packages.ubuntu.com/en/jaunty/libglib1.2ldbl
http://packages.ubuntu.com/en/jaunty/libgtk1.2

The creation of the start menu entry does not work and the game runs way too fast and the icculus script does not fix it. :(

Seems to be pretty complicated to get it run properly... the only way to fix it seems to slow down the CPU frequency.

The GTK1 problem can be easily fixed by migrating this old installer to our new installer software which would also fixes the start menu entry creation.

For the speed problem, look here:
