Railroad Tycoon 2 - no audio device available

Postby oshunluvr » Sun Aug 22, 2010 20:18

I'm using 64bit Kubuntu 10.04 2.6.32-26-generic kernel, no pulse audio

I had RT2 working very well under 9.10 but I installed it the old difficult way - loki_compat libraries and so on. I did have audio.

I discovered your installer and did an install to my system and all seemed to go perfectly. It even ran apparently correctly without "linux32".

The game launches and appears to play well (snappy even) except no sound. The error is a very generic "Warning: Unable to open audio: No available audio device". I am a member of group audio, /dev/dsp exists and permissions/ownership are "crw-rw----+ root audio", alsa oss is installed and modprobed.

what else to check?

It appears logging out and back in was all that was needed

Great job on the installer!

What did you do?
What action required a logout/login cycle?
