Hi,

unfortunately I could not get sof to work on my Debian Sid amd64 system with a Nvidia 8600 graphics card - installation works fine, but I get a crash upon starting the thing. Is there anything I can do?

Hard to tell.
You could try to use the 32bit libSDL instead of the bundled one, which was installed during the installation in the installation directory.

Solution for your problem: install (older), non-beta drivers

This error also happens on my NVS 140M with this driver-version.

Does anyone else get the "Hall of Mirrors" effect in foggy areas of the game?

Ok, solved my issues with other games, not Soldier of Fortune is the problem.

I installed using the Loki installer from the Linux cd, but I got the segfault (SDL parachute deployed) error. I tried reinstalling using the latest SOF beta installer, but got the game result.

Using the beta installer (looks almost the same as the disc installer):

I would love to get this game running, especially since my Windows version doesn't seem to run on Windows 7 (64).

tja1618 did you read the comment by rettichschnidi about the Nvidia driver?
Can you post some facts about your system/software setup?
Are you using the Linux version of SOF?

please download the SOF installer again, we added a hack, which should help avoiding these crashes.

Unfortunately I'm still having trouble. I get the same error apparently. However, I did notice that I am not getting the same sha256 sum.

At any rate I really appreciate all the help this site has been. I haven't really done this before, but I was trying to verify the PGP signature with gpg and I got an error about no OpenPGP data being found.

I really happy to see the update on the main page this morning.

As far as my system:

Fedora 13 (2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13.i686.PAE)
Nvidia 256.44 driver (which I believe is non-beta)
Yes, I am using the linux version of SOF, however it is an iso image I copied to my hard drive. I just mounted the image, the installer didn't complain.

I get the same result using both the on-disc installer and the one I downloaded.

You got the old installer. Please redownload the new one and you should be fine.

I redownloaded it like twice this morning, and just did another one.

Perhaps the new installer didn't get copied to the server correctly? Could you try and verify that the new installer matches the hash sum that is posted? Unfortunately I removed my old installer so I can't compare.

I have just double checked that - the file on the server is fine.

Can you please give us the sha256sum of your new download?

btw: since you posted the sha256sum of your old installer you should be able to compare it.

SUCCESS!

Wow, I feel like an idiot. Apparently Google Chrome had my download cached, or something. I deleted it from my downloads directory, and cleared the downloads list in chrome, but it was still caching the download somehow.

At any rate, I downloaded it via Firefox, the hash sums match and it launched first try!

You guys seriously are awesome!
